Great Goat Guardians |
After reading much literature, on and off line, I purchased this 4 year old, gelded, Bolivian llama to guard our boers. Ebbe has proven himself to be a great kid-sitter and sentry. The kids seem to think of him as play ground equipment / uncle and he worries more about them than their mothers do. When ever the neighbors dogs go out into their own pasture, Ebbe herds everyone into the barn. NO ONE escapes him.
After observing Ebbe for a couple of months, I decided that he wasn't much more than a good sentry and a great kid-sitter and we still needed a guardian. I had seen the Great Pyrenees used by Starry*Night Farm and was impressed. So I went in search of big dogs... |

After some research, and experience, I ended up with Great Pyrenees dogs and I cannot say enough good about these animals. They are gentle, loving dogs that seem to crave the companionship of the herd and get thoroughly upset if anything or anyone comes within 300 feet of their fence.
Arlo & Angel, pictured above, came to me from Wolf Moon Boer Goats in Idaho.
